These two lovers, grace and assurance, are not by God so nearly joined together but that they may by sin on our side, and justice on God’s, be put asunder. The keeping of these two lovers, grace and assurance, together, will yield the soul two heavens, a heaven of joy and peace here, and a heaven of happiness and blessedness hereafter; but the putting of these two lovers asunder will put the soul into a hell here, though it escape a hell hereafter. This Chrysostom knew well, when he professed that the want of the enjoyment of God would be a far greater hell to him than the feeling of any punishment. Thomas Brooks

John MacArthur, Jr. in his book The Gospel According To Jesus talks extensively about ‘Lordship Salvation.’ This comes by making Jesus Lord of all facets of your life, not just on Sunday or ‘head knowledge.’ “Unsaved people must obey Christ, give him their hearts, surrender their lives to Him, repent of their sins, submit to His lordship and follow Him. Many erroneously believe they can come to Christ, receive absolution and immortality, then walk away to continue living life as they please.”

James 2:14-20 says ‘faith without works is dead and cannot save.’ James describes spurious faith as pure hypocrisy (v.16), mere cognitive assent(v.19), devoid of any verfying works (v.17-18)–no different from the demons’ belief (v.19). Obviously, there is more to saving faith than merely conceding a set of facts. Faith without works is useless (v.20)

”Yet some in contemporary evangelicalism refuse to allow for any kind of relationship between faith and works. With this limitation, they are forced to receive virtually any profession of faith as the real thing.”

The gospel appeal is tacked on to a wholly inadequate explanation of what it means to believe,” says MacArthur. “The modern definition of faith (i.e. most churches today-I say) eliminates repentance, erases the moral significance of believing, obviates the work of God in the sinner’s heart, and makes an ongoing trust in the Lord optional.” Nothing could be further from the truth. True saving faith is active, repentant, constant, yielding, and obedient. Merely thinking about Jesus is not enough, nor is saying ‘I believe.’ You must show the Father that you are serious and will DO what it takes– an outward evidence to show what is really in your heart evidenced by verbs not thoughts.

Look for those who have walked with God down through the ages” he says. “Certainly, that is why the Bible is given to us. If God had intended it to be a textbook of doctrine, well, then, he would have written it like one. Oh, yes, we learn many crucial things about doctrine and Christian character in the Scripture, along with a great deal of wisdom. But if you’ll flip from cover to cover, you’ll notice that it’s overwhelmingly a book of stories–tales of men and women who walked with God.

‘When we commit ourselves to the pursuit of holiness, we need to ensure that our commitment is actually to God, not simply to a holy lifestyle or a set of moral values.’ As believers we need to be careful that we commit ourselves to God and not to a system, or church, or even just outstanding morals as pietific humanists. ‘We can be committed to a set of Christian values or to a lifestyle of discipleship without being committed to God Himself. But Paul said, offer yourselves to God, and in so doing that, commit yourselves to the pursuit of holiness in order to please Him.
’We should not seek holiness in order to feel good about ourselves, or to blend in with our Christian peer group, or to avoid the sense of shame and guilt that follows the committing of persistent sin in our lives…we need to work at ensuring that our (journey toward) holiness is a commitment to God, not to our own self-esteem.

We indeed must be careful not to become “churchified” or legalistically righteous, or even humbly pious, without truly searching our motives for why we are doing so. Danger truly follows us if we commit to a “system” of any kind. We must wholeheartedly, in repentance and with diligence, give ourselves to God daily, denying self and sin in our lives, to please God, not because we “have” to, but because we are truly grateful for His Grace and Mercy (hope, love, gifts, and forgiveness) that He lavishes on us.

Nice, because you can learn vocabulary and help end world hunger. The idea is very creative. This is how it works: you go to FreeRice.com and play their vocabulary game. For each question answered correctly, 10 grains of rice will be donated by the sponsors to help people living in poverty. It is a win-win situation - you get to play the game, FreeRice gets the traffic, advertisers get exposure, and hungry people get free rice. If you like the idea, please help to spread the word. For more details, please read their FAQ page. Read on…

All sorts of awlful things can seem to issue from your heart - - anger, lust, fear, petty jealousies,” says John Eldredge in Waking The Dead . “If you think it’s you, a reflection of what’s really going on in your heart, it will disable you. It could stop your journey dead in its tracks. What you’ve encountered is either the voice of the flesh or an attempt of the Enemy to distress you by throwing all sorts of thoughts your way and blaming you for it. You must proceed on this assumption: your heart is good. (The Holy Spirit dwells in, and keeps our hearts, once we become true believers.) If it seems that some foul thing is at work there, say to yourself, well, then–this is not my heart. My heart is good. I reject this. Remember Paul in Romans 7. This is not me. This is not me. And carry on in your journey. Over time you’ll grow familiar with the movements of your heart, and who is trying to influence you.

A good place to start is to look at the .css file for your website. It contains all the styles and layouts used to create the various effects. Also do some searches for Free Layouts or Free CSS templates.

How do I modify the files?

There are lots of ways to modify the files to your needs. Here are a few tutorials to get you acquainted:
CSS CribSheet
CSS Crib Vault
CSS Drive
Open up the CSS file you want in any text editor like Notepad, Ace HTML or Dreamweaver. You can now edit the files and save them and upload to your server, overwriting the old files.

Favorite CSS sources

We like this list of some our favorite links. This fancy menu is the way to go for a masterful presentation of just what Web Designers can do. Their tool box of toys is extensive and is changing all the time. Look here for the best of the cream:
Zen Garden
Stu Nicholls - CSS master
CSS showcase
Also snoop around on the demo page.

I want you to help me. How much do you charge?

This is again very easy to do. Depending on what type of “flavors” you want on your web page we would be glad to help you out.
Jing Jok .com
Jolly Moon .com
This CSS stuff can get overwhelming at times, but give your self credit and take a go at it.

When a person does read, especially a true reader, they typically know what they like. Science fiction is like that. Depending on the particular mood, a reader can find most anything of interest at least marginally readable. Swashbucklers, adventure, time travel, what ifs, strange things and foreign places. Most readers stick to one thing that they like most.

This is the fine story they really like, the exceptional storyline, the particular genre, the one thing that they will spend their time on when they actually do get time to read. It is really difficult to get a hard core reader to read something else; something outside of their usual happy space. (ha! pun intended!) Most readers only read authors and story lines that appeal to them and really love it when they come across something that is a fabulous new read; whether they discover it themselves, or take a recommendation, such as a trusted source that gives accurate reviews, or the occasional "trust me" from a friend.

Our journey into the unknown is rife with peril. The only real motivation for hope is to yearn for the afterlife. I want to know how to get to Heaven. This earthbound wonder of an existence is surely not all we have to look forward to. There must be, beyond this life, a boundless, wonderful, rest-stop on the journey of Eternity. I must find the way there.

“This earth holds nothing for me, but thee.” (Psalm-Ezekiel)

I want to see that horizon, march into that wonder, take my place in the pantheon of kindred souls. To bow and worship the Living Savior. To kiss His feet. To joyously proclaim for as long as I am able: “Jesus is Lord!”

Squidoo : Your lens, “How To Set Up Your Office In A Coffee Shop,” was chosen as Lens of the Day and is one of my personal favorites. This is a fun and unique topic they won’t teach you in school. How did you come up with the idea for it?

JaZilla : When I was deciding what I wanted to do lenses on Squidoo about, I kept remembering that old saying about “write what you know”. I know about using a coffee shop for an office; for years I’ve had a favorite local coffee shop that I’ve worked in. My husband even bought me a laptop several years ago so that I could write there.

Squidoo : Even though your topic doesn’t have to do with a specific and popular search term, your lens has done well. Why do you think this is?

JaZilla : I’m not sure. Some of it may be the result of promoting the lens myself, but I suspect that a lot of Squidoo readers are cafe society people. There’s a lot in common between people who like to hang out at coffee shops and Squidooers; you have to like a bit of chaos and be interested in a lot of esoteric subjects.

My confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees Christmas trees. I don’t feel threatened. I don’t feel discriminated against. That’s what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn’t bother me a bit when people say, ‘Merry Christmas’ to me. I don’ t think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn’t bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu . If people want a creche, it’s just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don’t like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don’t think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can’t find it in the Constitution and I don’t like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship Nick and Jessica and we aren’t allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that’s a sign that I’m getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where Nick and Jessica came from and where the America we knew went to.

Quoted by Ben Stein — remainder is urban legend

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it’s not funny, it’s intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham’s daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her ‘How could God let something like this happen?’ (regarding Katrina) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response <a href="http://www.snopes.com/rumors/wheregod.asp" target=blank">[real quote]. She said,

‘I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we’ve been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?’

In light of recent events…terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O’Hare (a famous athiest–she was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn’t want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn’t spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock’s son committed suicide– NOT TRUE ). We said an expert should know what he’s talking about. And we said OK. Now we’re asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don’t know right from wrong, and why it doesn’t bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with ‘WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.’

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world’s going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says . Funny how you can send ‘jokes’ through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing? Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you’re not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it… no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don’t sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in. My Best Regards.

Honestly and respectfully,

Not — Ben Stein

We should pay attention to our hearts. I am astounded by the simple yet profound wisdom I find in the excellent authors that I read. They are searching for God in ways that I had never heard of in my youth, or was to deaf to hear.

“All sorts of awful things can seem to issue from your heart–anger, lust, fear, petty jealousies,” says John Eldredge in Waking The Dead. Over time you’ll grow familiar with the movements of your heart, and who is trying to influence you.”

“Look for those who have walked with God down through the ages” he says. “Certainly, that is why the Bible is given to us. If God had intended it to be a textbook of doctrine, well, then, he would have written it like one. Oh, yes, we learn many crucial things about doctrine and Christian character in the Scripture, along with a great deal of wisdom. But if you’ll flip from cover to cover, you’ll notice that it’s overwhelmingly a book of stories–tales of men and women who walked with God.”

I love this stuff. These guys that I write about have captured the essence of something long missing in our churchified, religious, who’s right modern day ethos of “tips and techniques” Christianity. They, and God’s Word, touch me daily in ways that make me yearn for the gates of heaven and help me meet head-on Life’s daily rat race.

But believe it or not, the hour has come.” (Richard P. Belcher, A Layman’s Guide to the Lordship Controversy)

What is the gospel? Modern Christianity has tended to take a minimalist approach to the gospel. Unfortunately, the ligitimate desire to express the heart of the gospel clearly has given way to a less wholesome endeavor. It is a campaign to distill the essentials of the message to the barest possible terms. The glorious gospel of Christ–which Paul called “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Rom 1:16)–includes ALL of the truth about Christ. But modern churches tend to regard the gospel as a “plan of salvation.” We have reduced the message to a list of facts stated in the fewest possible words–and getting fewer all the time. You’ve seen the tracts, the prepackaged plans:

Six Steps to Peace with God

Five Things God Wants You to Know

Four Spiritual Laws

Three Truths You Can’t Live Without

Two Issues You Must Settle

One Way To Heaven

Christians today are cautioned not to say TOO much to the lost. Certain spiritual issues are labeled taboo: God’s Law, Christ’s Lordship, turning from sin (complete change of behavior–”a NEW person”), surrender, obedience, judgement, and hell. These things are not to be discussed, so as not to add anything to “God’s Free Gift.” Proponents of No-Lordship Salvation make faith the only permissible topic when addressing salvation to the masses. They render faith meaningless by stripping it of everything but its notional aspects.

The true message of salvation has been gutted and left an empty shell. Modern Christian churches are filled with “converts” whose faith is counterfeit and whose hope of eternal life hangs on bogus promises taught by charlatans. No Lordship Salvation teaches “accepting Christ as Savior,” brazenly rejecting His rightful claim as Lord. Paying Him glib lip service, they utterly scorn Him with their hearts (Mark 7:6) Casually afirm Him with their mouth, they deliberately deny Him with their deeds (Titus 1:16). Following Him superficially as “Lord, Lord,” theystubbornly decline to do His bidding (Luke 6:46).

The gospel is not primarily about a “plan,” but a call to trust in a PERSON. It is not a formula that must be prescribed to sinners in a series of steps. It does not call for a mere decision of the mind, but a surrender of the heart, mind and will–the total person–to Christ. It is not a message than can be encapsulized in cheap
preacherisms and then offered as a generic remedy for every kind of sinner.

IGNORANT sinners need to be instructed about who He is and why He has the right to demand their obedience. SELF-RIGHTEOUS sinners need to have their sin exposed by the demands of God’s Law.CARELESS sinners need to be confronted with the reality of God’s impending judgement. FEARFUL sinners need to hear that God in His Mercy has provided a of deliverance. ALL sinners must understand how utterly important it is to find out the truth about eternal life. They must comprehend, in more than just “thinking” or “feeling” the basic truths of Christ’s sacrificial death and the triumph of His resurrection. They need to be confronted with God’s demand that they turn form their sin and embrace Christ as LORD and SAVIOR.

Modern churches drive home the doctrine that unsaved people should be told that they have no other duty to God than just “believing.” “Repent and believe,” “believe and confess Christ,” “believe and be baptized,” “believe and surrender to God,” or “believe and confess your sin.” All these are directly expressed in God’s Word. The familiar John 3:16 verse that millions hang their future on, is just a very few verses above John 3:26 –”He who does not OBEY the Son shall not see life.” It is definitely more than just “thinking” about Jesus, or “feeling” good about trying to do the right thing; it is paramount that the sinner truly repent, confess their sin, obey Christ as a new person, be baptised and continue to do so in complete surrender to Jesus as LORD.

They are not what you think they are (as perhaps suggested by their titles).
