Conversion of a soldier

Cornelius, Saul and the eunuch offer us a complete picture of what it means to have “saving faith” or eternal life.          J. W. McGarvey’s Original Commentary on Acts

First, in the cases of the eunuch and Cornelius , there was the visible appearance of an angel; and many converts of modern times have related, as part of their experience in conversion, similar apparitions. But there certainly was not in Saul’s case the appearance of an angel; therefore, such an appearance is not necessary to conversion.

Second, The Lord himself appeared to Saul and conversed with him; but he certainly did not to either the eunuch or Cornelius. It is not necessary, then, to see the Lord.

Third, Saul mourned and prayed for three days after he believed, and before he was immersed; but Cornelius and the eunuch did not; therefore, protracted sorrow and prayer are not necessary to conversion.

Fourth, Cornelius was immersed in the Spirit, but Saul and the eunuch were not; therefore, immersion in the Spirit is not essential, but a circumstance arising from the peculiarity of a single case.

Then Peter answered, (47) Can any man forbid water, that these should not be immersed, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we? (48) And he commanded them to be immersed in the name of the Lord. (Acts 10:47-48)

” Baptism - immersion” is necessary for eternal life and part of “saving faith” or “Lordship Salvation” .

What to Read Today

Most people read for pleasure. People tend to read what they like to read. It takes an Act Of Congress just to changes some people’s minds. Here are offered 10 wonderful stories that you have never heard of. I usually do not read a new book unless it is recommended by someone I truly trust, or it is by an author that I really like. Occasionally, I run out of stuff to read or fail to find just the right title, story line, adventure or just plain interesting something. Then I go on a hunt. These lucky tomes listed here are the result of years of "hunting"; pursuing that great read that you can remember, enjoy, laugh about, like and generally just have a great time escaping into.
Yeah, we know, escapism is the reason we read for enjoyment. Seems this particular habit started back in ancient Greece with the open air dramas at the ampitheater. Don’t you just love it when the "Deus Ex Machina" shows up. But we digress…(a lover of sci-fi gets lost on tangents all the time)
Ok, so we couldn’t keep our list to just ten. Still, you WILL love these stories.

All Things Gecko

          We love Geckos!
Or couldn’t ya tell? Jing Jok is a gecko!
These humorus little creatures abound in the tropics. We have made numerous friends and kin
with these wonderful little lizards in places like Bangkok, Guam, Canary Islands, Hawaii and other lovely places. They are marvelous to watch. Better than butterflies, hummingbirds, small kids, and puppies. Their entertainment value is priceless. Skittering across the wall is their favorite pastime. If you happen to have lived in one of those places that had king-sized roaches invading your territory, then geckos are much more preferrable. Guaranteed.
